I wouldn’t usually put applesauce on top of ice cream, but this isn’t your ordinary applesauce. You’ll see what I mean when you mix up your first batch of chunky crock pot applesauce. This is definitely a dessert-like ice cream topping. If you cut the apples nice and chunky, you end up with almost an apple pie filling. The cinnamon certainly adds to the dessert quality of this applesauce. You’ll have to experiment with your sugar a bit depending on the tartness of the apples. But, that’s a good excuse for making a second batch right away.

Cooking applesauce on top of the stove has always made me a bit nervous. I’m always checking the pot to be sure the sugar isn’t scorching. I add water, then regret it because now I have to boil the sauce even longer than I wanted in order to reduce all that extra water. That’s the beauty of slowcooker recipes for applesauce. The slow cooking is ideal for any fruit and sugar dish and takes the guesswork out of the whole process. Throw in the ingredients and forget it until dessert time.
